Dr. Shackelton was called to an emergency at night where a donkey was attacked by dogs. What a horrific site!! Katie is a 13 year old miniature donkey that was attacked by dogs, sustaining a large wound on her right cheek and throat latch area. Her jaw bone was left exposed and the surrounding tissue severely damaged. Over the past three and a half months, Katie has been receiving laser therapy, bandage changes and wound revisions. During that time, her owners have painstaking administered medical care at home as well by cleaning her wounds, giving her antibiotics and changing her bandages. Through all this effort, care and Katie's consistently tough attitude, her large wound has healed down to a small blemish.
After multiple recheck appointments over several months, the tissue granulates in and hides the jawbone. Laser therapy was used to aid the healing process.
What an amazing recovery! Luckily this donkey had good veterinary care and at home care.
