Bladderstone Boarding Dog

Because of our kind and attentive staff at Middletown Animal Hospital, a boarding dog received immediate surgery to remove a huge bladderstone.  Kali's family were new to the area and they were boarding her at Middletown Boarding Center while they were moving into their home.  Jenna, our veterinary technician, noticed while walking Kali that she was straining to urinate so she notified the doctor who said to monitor her daily.  Kali began urinating in small amounts and eventually Jenna noticed blood in the urine.  The doctor called Kali's owners who said that she had been having urinary issues for the past month.  Dr. Smith performed an exam with an ultrasound which revealed a bladder stone and bloody urine.  Her urine was collected for a culture and sensitivity since bacteria commonly are the cause or secondary to bladder stone formation.  Dr. Smith performed surgery the next day to remove a single large urolith from the bladder.  Kali is recovering well and will need to change her diet to Prescription Diet c/d food only.  Thank you to our wonderful staff for a successful outcome.  Jenna for noticing a problem right away and Dr. Smith for being able to operate right away.  If she had been at a different boarding facility she may have suffered before being noticed.  If a different veterinary hospital was used they may not have been able to get her in for a couple weeks.  At Middletown Animal Hospital we strive to provide excellent care and service.
