Digital Thermal Imaging and Lameness

Animals can't tell us where they hurt but Digital Thermal Imaging can.  Middletown Animal Hospital uses the latest technology to localize areas on the patient that might not have been uncovered by a physical exam and objectively show where the problem is so treatment can be focused on the source of pain.  This 6 month old Basset Hound was seen by Jeff Smith, DVM, CCRP for intermittent limping.  He was not limping at the time of the exam but Thermal Imaging revealed pain in the right elbow joint.  Diagnostic radiographs showed a piece of the ulna fractured or detached in the elbow joint along with arthritis.  Surgery was recommended as well as daily multimodal pain management afterward, not just when the pet appears painful.  Laser therapy of the joint area was also recommended to reduce pain and inflammation while stimulating healing in a natural, drug free manner.  Middletown Animal Hospital is the only veterinary clinic in Lake County to offer this service.
