On 3/22/17 Dr. Smith at Middletown Animal Hospital donated his time and hospital to support Fix Lake County. He did 22 alteration surgeries for low income families and an additional 4 animals the next day. This was a perfect way to start the first day of spring by making sure more animals cannot contribute to the crisis of pet overpopulation. As a Rotarian, Dr. Smith is accustomed to giving back to his community so using their professional skills to help the less fortunate is gratifying. The one message that Dr. Smith would like to add is that spaying or neutering your animal is only the beginning of responsible pet ownership. Animals need regular care from a veterinarian to be healthy and free from disease and parasites.
Karen Schaver from Orphan Dogs was instrumental in organizing this event and screening qualified pet owners. Teresa, hospital manager at Middletown Animal Hospital, also worked hard to make sure the event went smoothly.
